Public Assistance
Each year thousands of communities in the United States are faced with disasters. The impact may be limited to a single neighborhood, as in the case of a tornado or widespread such as hurricanes, floods, earthquakes and acts of terrorism. When the magnitude of an event is more than the local government and the state can handle, the federal government will step in at the request of the Governor to supplement funding through the FEMA Public Assistance Program (PA Program) under the Stafford Act.
The PA Program is intended to provide assistance to states, local governments, tribal entities and certain non-profit organizations to alleviate suffering and hardship resulting from major disaster or emergencies declared by the President. Public assistance is designed to, among other things, help repair and replace critical infrastructure, public structures and services damaged in a disaster, as well as speed the recovery process by improving debris removal operations and supporting emergency protective measures. BDR has a team of public assistance professionals that can guide your community through the PA Program, as well as other funding sources and help maximize federal reimbursement. Through such practices as identifying eligible emergency and permanent work (Category A-G), appeal services, negotiations and final review of all emergency work performed, BDR will continue to aid your community in cost recovery efforts long after debris has been removed.
